Q magazine


Audience profile
i would say from looking at the front cover of this magazine the genre for this magazine would be for everyone!  i would say that it is aimed at both genders, also being an monthly magazine, it is a magazine for all artists, all types of music, so it is basically made to suit every audience. I would say the age for this magazine is targeted at would be 16 - 20. like i said for both geders, there is no indication showing it is only made for one gender.
The colours
The colours that have been used are very neutral, they are colours that can be used for both genders, the colours are thought to be unisex colours. No colours that have been used can be classed in a stereotypical manner, none of these colours would be classed to be just for boys or girls. red is a very common colour for both genders, also it is quite common for red to be majority of girls favourite colours. also the use of black, white, and grey all colours that are not thought to be anyones favourite colour, or colour of choice for male or females. 
the images 
Being that it is Lady GaGa, one of the most famous and well known, popular artists of our day, i would say that the picture is a big eye catcher, being who it is, also the way the picture has been posed. Its a very good idea to have a popular artist as the main focus of the magazine, also having a woman who is in good shape half naked, but in a tasteful way, is a good eye catcher. its good to have just one main focus, and by having it covering the name of the title slightly makes it have a feeling, it was thought out, and doesnt make it look plain.

Target audience/audience profile
I would assume that the genre for this magazine would be pop music, and i would say its target audience would be girls. i would range the age group from 10-14. Obviously with having Cheryls beauty secrets, as she is also an idol in the pop industry, every girl wants to be her, sharing her secrets, so the younger girls can be like her would be a dream come true for them.
The colours
i assume it's targeted at girls judging by the colours that have been specifically used for this magazine.
the fact that the magazine's use of colours are mainly pink and purple, these colours are stereotypically known as 'girly' colours, they are colours for the typical girly girls, you dont exactly see boys wearing pink and purple, in a girly manner, or pink or purple being a boys favourite colour. Pink and purple are aimed at girls, which is why i would say the colour of the magazine is a major factor for the magazine in what target audience they're aiming for.
The images
the images relate to the  genre, as Justin Bieber is known as a very popular artist in the pop industry, especially when it comes to girls, he seems to be the most desired boy by the younger girls (for reasons i will never know) the main headline is "wanna see my bedroom" with a picture of Justin Bieber pointing at the audience with a cheeky little smile, would automatically make one of these Justin Bieber lovers want to read the magazine automatically, this is really suited for not only the genre but also the target audience. They aslo use other artists from very popular bands, that are also extremely famous in the pop industry, such as JLS, Frankie from The Saturdays, also not only famous artists, but also a famous actor, that most young girls melt over, as he is a main character from Twilight, which again seems to be the most popular films for the younger girls, also the picture of Taylor's being 'could you be taylor's girl? find out inside' this would make the girls find out if they could be one of their 'dream guys' girl. which  i suppose is every little girls dream to know they can have that one guy they've always wanted. All of the pictures are relate well to eachother, and the magazine as a whole.

In yesterday's two lessons we began to do a case study on a music magazine, the magazine i had chosen to analyse was Kerrang magazine from last year (2010). I analysed things such as the magazine as an overall, the front cover, ownership. audience profile, inside the magazine, advertising, interactivity and pleasures.
But what i have been told to put down on blogger is the audience profile, genre and the front cover.

Genre
The genre is pop/heavy rock, it is basically about rock music, for what i would stereotype as "indies", "scene kids", "rockers". Genre is a big part of the magazine, if one had a magazine with too much different genre's then there wouldn't be much point of buying a magazine with minimal information about a certain genre that the audience likes, so doing it on two particular genre's but have some relation to each other would get more customers, and would be easier for the magazine producers to be able to produce a suitable magazine, that suits a particular audience instead of running around to have a suitable magazine for a variety of audiences.


The Front cover
For the front cover i took note of the kind of pictures are placed and what the picture is of on the cover and how it suited the genre, i also had to annotate what the images are telling the audience as well as the writing on the writing. I also looked at the font size, the font style etc, and explain how this was all in relation to each other. The colour is also a vital part towards making the magazine what it is, if there wasn't any colour then it would be boring and dull, no one would want to read it, people want to read something that would interest them, by having colour on the front cover it catches the customers eyes, and would want them to buy it, its all about the presentation.
Images:
The main image is of a couple of members from quite a famous and popular/ well known band of this particular audience. This would definitely attract fans of Enter Shikari, the which is the band the two people on the front cover are apart of. Having these two men placed big and bold attracts readers, obviously if it was a small picture and colourless then no one would see the magazine or be attracted to it in any shape or form. It also would attract more of an audience simply how the band member's are posed, and how they have been positioned, for instance the way one of them are pointing at you, catches your attention, it kind of says "YOU! read me" it reaches out to the audience, by pointing at them. Also by both of them having a cheeky grin on them makes you want to see what kind of story it is. The image sells the story, a story or headline without an image gives you a bit more insight on what the story is about. It doesn't just leave you wondering what its about but it helps you imagine what the story is about.
Even the smaller images could catch someones attention, by having little other pictures, but still noticeable. They are more desirable to the readers, as the readers obviously like this genre and would like pictures of the members of bands who are associated with this genre. For instance the pictures of the free posters that come with the magazine.
Colours:
For this magazine cover the colours show what audiences the publisher is aiming at, for example the colours of pink and blue are supposed to be a feminine and masculine colours, so this suggests that this magazine is both aimed at males and females. this attracts both genders to the magazine and the simple fact that it isn't plain, and has colour will make the magazine more eye catching, and would help make the amount of readers rise to a higher number. The fact that the colours are not too bright but 'happy' colours help, and also the fact the colours all go together, would attract more people, if it is too out there, too over crowded, then people wouldn't want to buy it, although it may catch someone attention it doesn't mean its presentable and people would like it.
Text:
all of the text on the front cover isn't the same font and size, so it mixes it up a bit, and makes it more exciting and more desirable. Also how they have worded the main head line 'we're reaching the point of no return! Enter Shikari & The King Blues. Rou and Itch tells it like it is' this automatically thinks, celebrity point of view, this could be interesting, people may want to compare how they feel about what the celebrities have said. The fact that it says 'tell it like it is' makes readers think they are being truthful how they feel, this could be interesting. it may intrigue people, also how its about two bands who do different types of music but still come under the same kind of genre.

Audience Profile
The type of person would believe to read this is someone at the ages of 14 -18 if not a little bit older, the gender i think this magazine would be for is both, as stated earlier in my analysis. The social class i believe to read this would be C1, C2 and D because when you think about it, would you see someone who is a professional doctor who belongs in the social class A or B to read a music magazine, i would of thought professional people, as they are believed to be smart, obviously as they wouldnt be able to get a professional well paid job if they wast, i think they would read something that is intelectual, something that would challenge their brain, or something that is going on around the world, like a newspaper for instance. The reason i believe the age would be 14-18, obviously i believe it would be 18 for fextivals, this would also be the reason i believe the readers could be a little bit older. 14 and above may want to be 'with it' and go to all the cool events. This magazine costs £2.20 so its not too expensive especially for something that is for every week, if it was every day then it would add up too much, and be alot of money in the long run.

Magazine front cover and contents page

Finally, our last task of this was to actually put our draft into neat. I did this by using photoshop, although i had alot of problems with it and alot of help, i managed to do it, thankfully. We had to make two A4 sheets, so it would look like a realistic magazine cover and contents page. We had to upload the pictures we had taken before we started on the photoshop. When we uploaded the pictures for the front cover we were able to get started, many had a few problems including me :/ i edited my pictures to make it fit to my draft. and i may of pinched a few pictures off of the internet :). I wanted to make it all go together, so it wasnt a front cover that plain, or unorganised. I did the same with the contents page, after doing the front cover we went to take pictures for it, and did the same process again.

School magazine draft

We were set a piece of work to do, we were to create a draft of our front cover page aswell as our contents page. We had to do this so we knew what we wanted to do and it would make it easier to know what pictures we wanted for our magazine if we put all our ideas together and see how well it looked, if it wasnt what we had in mind we could always change it. But it is always good to have something to follow so not many if any mistakes are made.


When i say draft, i really do mean it as you can tell :)

St marks perspective

A few weeks ago we had to anatate the schools perspective, this was to help us with creating our own school magazine, although they may be slightly different, we still concertrate on the same things, being;
  • main head line
  • main story line
  • main picture etc

A few weeks ago we were analysing two different front covers, one was of a letter for university students who have already graduated to get them interested in taking another course at university, which i found very dull and boring. The other front cover was one for students that have never been to university and who might be interested in taking there education higher or students that are currently at university, this one was i thought to be over crowded.

Analysing Front Cover

In today's first lesson we were taking down notes from a PowerPoint Miss Breen had prepared about basically a front cover of a magazine. Then using those notes we were given a picture of a magazine front cover (shown below) in the second lesson and we had to analyse it, using the notes miss had given us in the first lesson. Also along with it, writing a audience profile, basically saying who it's for, what age group, and why we thought this. Instead of me writing out all the analysing i did on the front cover of this magazine, it will be shown in the picture below, if anyone is curious to what i had said about it.

Photoshop

For media on Thursday we got to experiment with photoshop and create our own front cover for a nature magazine. We went out of school to get pictures of nature outside of the school, Netteswell pond seemed to be highly popular in our class. I was one of those who had taken a picture of Netteswell, just before our camera ran out of battery, one of the pictures i had taken was a picture of the stream coming off of Netteswell. When i had gotten back to class, i began to edit my picture i had chosen out of the variety i had taken. As i couldn't actually save the work i had done, and do not have photoshop at home this is my substitute for now. Enjoy :)

My lesson in photoshopping

Well in yesterday's lesson we had two technicians come in to teach us how to use photoshop correctly. I learnt all the basic stuff which is more than what i knew before, so its all good :). I learnt about how you can take away any part of the picture you dont want, and put it back if you made a mistake. We also was taught about how you can edit the colour and text. It was all very exciting :D

media studies lesson 13th january

In my lesson on Thursday 13th January we firstly went into Mrs Rodgers room to get a laptop for ourselves, then we looked at a powerpoint for our next task in media studies. The powerpoint was information on AS G321 Foundation Portfolio in Media, after taking notes down we had to grab a laptop to sign up on blogger, for those who successfully signed up on blogger we began to follow others on this site. That is what consisted in our media studies lesson.
